In the highlands of PNG, up to 100% women experience violence regularly. Many are beaten on a daily basis and sexual harassment is extremely common in markets.
When women are safe from violence, entire communities and economies flourish. UN Women is supporting local services and training male community leaders to understand and communicate that violence against women is a crime. UN Women is also providing training so women can earn an income and support their families.

Empower at-risk young mums
Bump is a 6-month mentoring and education program that empowers young mothers to break the cycle of disadvantage and build their confidence and skills to thrive, both as individuals and as parents. This helps shape the future for two generations.
Aged between 13 and 23, many pregnant and young mothers are trapped in toxic relationships and have low self-worth. 1 in 2 have experienced domestic violence. 1 in 3 suffer from anxiety or a mental health condition.
Raise’s Bump program helps teenage mothers break the cycle of disadvantage.
Restoring the land
Greening Australia aims to restore 330,000 hectares of native trees across Australia by 2030. Drawing on the expert input of Traditional Owners, scientists and local land managers, we will plant 500 million trees and shrubs to store carbon, create quality habitat for native wildlife, and restore degraded farmland. These 500 million trees and shrubs will absorb over 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2030, and reduce atmospheric carbon pollution.
This is one of the world’s largest and most ambitious ecological restoration programs.
